Thomas Jesse IVEY was the illegitimate son of Mary IVEY. He added the ‘HOWARD’ after emigrating. Thomas Jesse IVEY was christened 30 Sept 1832, Oldland, Glos, son of Mary IVEY, spinster, of Oldland Batch, Gloucestershire..
Mary IVEY/IVORY, his mother, was born in 1803 and baptized on 20 Oct 1816, at Oldland, Glos, age 13.
In Jan 1837 she married Thomas North SMITH, a cabinet maker, born 1814 Bedminster, Somerset. He was the son of John SMITH, chair maker, and Sarah LEWIS. Thomas North SMITH and Mary lived in Bristol with Thomas Jesse IVEY; they had a daughter Emily who married Thomas Nutt PARSLOW at St Mary’s, Bitton, Glos, in July 1860, and with whom Thomas kept in touch after emigrating.
